Passion week devotional

Sunday: He Is Risen

Scripture: Luke 24:1–12

“Why do you look for the living among the dead? He is not here; he has risen!” (v.5–6)

Devotional:
The grave was sealed. The guards were posted. But nothing could stop resurrection. On the third day, Jesus rose—and history changed forever. He wasn’t just alive again. He was victorious, glorified, triumphant over sin and death.

Easter isn’t just a holiday. It’s the heart of our faith. If Jesus is alive, then hope is alive. Your past is forgiven, your future is secure, and your present is filled with purpose. He is risen—just as He said.

Saturday: The Hour Of Darkness

Scripture: Luke 22:52–53

“...But this is your hour—when darkness reigns.”

Devotional:
Saturday was the silence between the agony of the cross and the joy of the resurrection. Jesus had been arrested. Buried. The disciples were scattered. And darkness seemed to have won. But even this moment was part of the plan.

Jesus called it “the hour of darkness”—but only an hour. Evil never has the final word. If you feel stuck in your own Saturday moment —waiting, grieving, wondering—hold on. The light is about to break through.

Friday: It Is Finished

Scripture: Isaiah 53:4–6

“...he was pierced for our transgressions,
he was crushed for our iniquities;
the punishment that brought us peace was on him,
and by his wounds we are healed.” (v.5)

Devotional:
Good Friday is the most heartbreaking and hope-filled day in history. Jesus bore our sin, our shame, our judgment—so we could walk in peace. Centuries before the cross, Isaiah told the story with chilling clarity. This wasn’t a random act of violence. It was divine love on a rescue mission.

Today, remember: He didn’t just die for the world. He died for you. Your healing, your peace, your forgiveness—was won on that cross.

Thursday: Given and Poured Out

Scripture: John 13:1–17

“Now that I, your Lord and Teacher, have washed your feet,
you also should wash one another’s feet.” (v.14)

Devotional:
Before the betrayal, before the cross, Jesus stooped to serve. He washed feet—dirty, dusty, undeserving feet. Then He broke bread and shared His heart. This was love on display.

On this day, we remember not just the meal, but the message: “Do as I have done for you.” True greatness is found in humility. This is the way of the cross—service, surrender, sacrifice.

Wednesday: Silent Surrender

Scripture: Isaiah 53:7

“He was oppressed and afflicted,
yet he did not open his mouth;
he was led like a lamb to the slaughter…”

Devotional:
While Wednesday is quiet in the Gospel accounts, it was anything but empty. Behind the scenes, betrayal brewed. Yet Jesus remained still. Isaiah’s prophecy captures it: silent surrender, not weakness, but strength under control.

There are moments when God calls us to speak—and others when He calls us to trust in the quiet. Today, don’t fear the silence. Let it be a space where God strengthens your resolve, prepares your heart, and reminds you—He is still in control.

Tuesday: Unshakable Words

Scripture: Isaiah 40:6–8

“The grass withers and the flowers fall,
but the word of our God endures forever.” (v.8)

Devotional:
On Tuesday, Jesus silenced His critics and spoke boldly of what was to come. His words outlasted kingdoms, cultures, and critics. Isaiah reminded God’s people long ago that everything else fades—but His Word remains.

In a world that constantly shifts, you need something solid. Anchor yourself in what lasts. Every word Jesus spoke was true then and is still true now. His Word will not pass away—it will carry you through.

Monday: A House For Prayer

Scripture: Isaiah 56:6–8

“…for my house will be called
a house of prayer for all nations.” (v.7)

Devotional:
Before Jesus quoted this verse while clearing the temple, Isaiah had already revealed God’s heart: His house was meant to be open to all. A place of prayer, not profit. A sanctuary, not a showroom. Monday of Passion Week reminds us that true worship is holy, not hurried.

God still calls us to purity. What would Jesus find in the temple of your heart? Is it a house of prayer—or has something else taken center stage? Let Him drive out what doesn’t belong.

Palm Sunday: The King Has Come

Scripture: Zechariah 9:9–10

“Rejoice greatly, Daughter Zion! Shout, Daughter Jerusalem!
See, your king comes to you, righteous and victorious,
lowly and riding on a donkey, on a colt, the foal of a donkey.” (v.9)

Devotional:
Long before Jesus entered Jerusalem, the prophet Zechariah described the moment with stunning accuracy. A King would come—not with chariots or armies—but in humility, riding on a donkey. The people cried out, “Hosanna!” longing for deliverance, and the King came not to conquer Rome, but something much larger, to conquer sin.

Palm Sunday is a celebration—but it’s also a turning point. Jesus came in peace, knowing full well the cross awaited Him. Will you receive Him not just as a hero, but as your Savior?
